Chelsea have announced the signing of striker Olivier Giroud from Arsenal for a deal reportedly worth £17.5million including add-ons.
The Frenchman joins the Blues on a 18-month deal until 2019, with an option for another year, to provide back up and competition for Alvaro Morata, who has struggled for form of late.
Morata has not scored for Chelsea since Boxing Day in a drought stretching six games and three competitions, most infamously missing a hat-trick of clear cut chances in his side’s 2-2 draw with Arsenal in the Premier League.
The deal will allow an interesting transfer triangle to be completed, with Michy Batshuayi moving to Borussia Dortmund, replacing Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang who sbobet8888 has joined Giroud’s former-club Arsenal.
Speaking of his move, opting to remain in London despite links to Monaco, Giroud expressed his happiness with joining one of the ‘biggest teams’ in the Premier League.
“Chelsea is one of the biggest teams in the Premier League,” he told Chelsea’s official website.
“They have won maybe the most trophies in the last six or seven years. It’s a massive club and I am proud to sign for Chelsea, and I’m looking forward to playing.”
