Chelsea manager Antonio Conte has been impressed with the “character” of Alvaro Morata after the Spaniard ended his goalscoring drought against Leicester in the FA Cup.
It was Morata’s strike that forced the Blues ahead in the first half in a game they would win 2-1 in extra-time.
It was his first goal in 2018, marking a successful return to the starting XI after being overlooked for the last three matches in favour of Olivier Giroud.
The 25-year-old almost scored a brace after having several chances in the tie, though it was his overall performance that impressed his manager.
“For Alvaro, it was important to score but I sbobetsh am pleased for his performance,” Conte told reporters, via Goal.
“He showed great character and to be strong. I think his goal will be very important for the future.”
Chelsea have avoided drawing fellow top-four contenders Manchester United or Tottenham Hotspur by getting Southampton, but Conte does not believe his side have an easier ride.
“I think when you arrive at this point in the tournament it is easy to consider it easy, but Manchester City lost to Wigan,” he said.
